Q

your songs are amazing, i was wondering if you wrote them yourself or someone helped you? either way they are amazing! your voice is beautiful!

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

Hi and thanks for asking. Yes, I have written both the melody and lyrics. There are certain songs like 'So Complicated' where other instrumentation has been added. Some of these are live musicians and I often need help writing those parts - guitar, drums, violin. But since I am primarily a solo artist singing with my piano; most of the time it's just little old me. I am so glad you like my music!

Q

I signed up for both groups, but I don't know what the street team is or does.

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

Street team is for those fans that want to help share my music with other people. No pressure though. :)) thanks so much for signing up and listening to my music. It is an honor to have you as my fan! Love Anna

Q

Sometime, do you do cover of songs? Thank you !

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

You know I have hardly ever done any cover songs. I have almost always exclusively sang my own original songs. I don't think I have even one cover of someone else's song up on youtube that I know of. But I will tell you that lately I have been working on a few covers for an upcoming competition. Stay tuned :))

Q

Your piano/vocal vids on YouTube are outstanding. But I am curious: have you, or are you interested in collaborating with other musicians for live or recorded performance?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

I would love to collaborate, I just haven't really had the opportunity I guess but I did play with a small band for a while. If you look at my band video of Believe you will see an example of that. But collaborating with some other musicians would be great!!

Q

Do you do many live performances? Any tour plans in the works?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

I haven't done that many live performances. I have a feeling though that I will be doing alot more. I did however do a live audition for America's Got Talent season 6. The audience was the largest I had ever been in front of. At least a couple thousand.

Q

Hey Anna! You are an awesome musician :) Who is your biggest musical inspiration? -Dani

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

I really love musicians who are singer songwriters who also play an instrument. Like Paul McCartney, Alicia Keys, Sara Bareilles, Taylor Swift, Billy Joel. I don't know who I would say is my biggest inspiration. I do love Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys. Both very talented women musicians who write music from the heart.

Q

When you're making a new song, do you first write the lyrics for the song or the piano music/notes?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

I almost always start with the piano first, then the melody and then the lyrics.

Q

Do you compose music in your sleep? Ever wake up with that melody still in your head and write it down?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

I have never dreamed a melody that I could remember the next day but I often go to bed with a new one from that day and then wake up with it improved, some problem worked out or it is different in some way. I definitely think it helps to sleep on it.

Q

How did you get on Ellen?
Please write back!(:

This is what happened. My family had been putting my videos up on youtube since April 2008. In August 2009 I wrote a song called Paradise and I uploaded it to youtube. Someone at youtube must have took notice. (It would be fun to know who exactly). That next month youtube decided to highlight a small group of child musicians and I was one of them. The traffic to my channel went crazy. The Ellen Show saw that I was featured and curiously watched the video of me singing Paradise. Soon after Ellen invited me to come to her show and sing Paradise for her. It was great fun and a great experience. I was invited back to meet Taylor Swift. Wow wow double fun!
