Q

How do you think of a melody for a song you want to write about?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/18/2011
A

that is a hard question. I would like to think that each melody that I write is unique. So far I have released 35 or so songs in various forms and I try hard to have each one be unique in it's own way. My inspiration comes from previous songs have written mostly. I would say it's a progression.

Q

What were you feeling when you wrote the song, "See You in My Memories"?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/16/2011
A

Sadness mostly and some hope. My Grandma has been fighting cancer for about a year. The song was inspired by the thoughts of her not being with us any more. Makes me sad to write about it. :(

Q

You said that you got your voice from your mom. Did you sing alot with her when you were younger?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/15/2011
A

One of my earliest memories is of me and my mom singing together in our old junky van. It didn't have a radio or cd player in it. We would sing to pass the time and I learned that car time meant singing time.

Q

Hi Anna! Do you think you'll ever become really famous?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/07/2011
A

I don't know. I am a little scared of it. I do love singing and writing! I do love performing even though I am really nervous right before I go on stage. I have been trying to perform more even if it is in front of smaller groups of people. I did just audition for America's got Talent season 6. Some of the emotions and feelings for me were a little overwhelming!

Q

as a song writer do you have any advice for someone who wants to write their own songs?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/07/2011
A

Writing every day even if it is just a little something. I try to do that. For me a new song always starts with the piano then the melody and then the lyrics. I also write alot of stories. I think just writing period helps me improve as long as I do it every day I can.

Q

what kind of exercises do you do to refresh your voice?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/07/2011
A

I am just now learning how to correctly warm my voice up and then after I am done to also correctly cool my voice down. I still hate doing it. Sometimes I don't do it but my voice teacher says it's important. Most of the time I just go for it. :)) I am trying to practice more every day and I do notice a big difference.

Q

Anna how is life like on a regular day? Like is school like a mob fest because you are famous?!

Anna Graceman responded on 06/07/2011
A

I love school! I love my friends there and I am pretty much treated like everyone else except that they know I leave every once and while to work on my music. I have gone to a Montessori school ever since I was small. I will start home schooling soon because we are going to visit my sick grandma for a while and so I will be traveling and away from home for a longer period of time.

Q

Keep up the great work girl!!!
Could you sing hearts & hands again, its a great song thanks!!!!

I love that song. One of my favorites for sure! I was working at a new studio and one of the engineers there had watched all my youtube videos and the first thing he said to me was - Will you please please play Heart & Hands for me? Some people really connect with that song even though it was written so long ago. Well to me it was a long time ago. haha :)

Q

Hello Anna,

A little while ago, you tweeted that you almost lost your music journal, but fortunately found it. I wanted to ask, have you digitized (scan or photos) that journal just in case?

- Huy

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

I really should make a copy of my song book. I have all these hand written notes and songs. I lost it a month ago and I went crazy trying to find it. I was working at a new studio and I couldn't remember what I had done with it. I should scan all the pages. Good idea!

Q

Do you play guitar?

Anna Graceman responded on 06/06/2011
A

yes I do play the guitar. I have been focused on the piano for a long time though. I think that I express myself better using the piano. I would like to take a break from the piano and focus more on the guitar again. I get a different vibe from it and I think it inspires me to write totally different songs than the piano does.
